AI jobs in India span machine learning engineers, data scientists, data analysts, AI and LLM application engineers, MLOps engineers and full-stack developers who build AI features. Hiring is concentrated in tech hubs, but remote and hybrid work means strong skills and a real project portfolio matter more than your city.

What are the main AI roles?

Where is AI hiring happening?

Metro tech hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai, the Delhi NCR and Kolkata host many product companies, global capability centres and startups. Growing Tier 2 cities such as Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Indore and Coimbatore are adding tech teams too. Remote and hybrid roles mean you can often apply from anywhere.

What about salaries?

AI pay in India varies widely by role, company type, city, experience and depth of skills, so any single "average" can mislead. Look at current listings for the specific roles you want, and notice what they ask for; that tells you what to learn.

How do you become employable for these roles?

  1. Build strong fundamentals: programming, DSA and databases.
  2. Learn machine learning and deep learning properly, not just tool names.
  3. Add LLM skills: transformers, fine-tuning, RAG and evaluation.
  4. Learn to deploy: Docker, APIs, cloud and monitoring.
  5. Show proof: deployed projects, clean GitHub repos and clear write-ups.
